The short answer: on published prices, almost no Apptega alternative is cheaper. Apptega lists $7,080 to $14,880 a year for organizations of up to 200 employees, and every rival card covers fewer people for more money. Teams switch for scope instead: Sprinto, Secureframe, Drata and Vanta collect SOC 2 evidence automatically, Scrut has the lowest recorded contracts under 20 people, and ZenGRC prices many frameworks under one flat rate.
The full Apptega rate card, with every add-on and term discount, is on our Apptega pricing page. This guide is for the next step: you have an Apptega quote or a renewal coming, and you want to know what else is worth a demo. All figures were read on 19 October 2026 from each vendor's own AWS Marketplace listing, Vendr's recorded contracts, or the vendor's website.
Why teams look for Apptega alternatives
Apptega is a solid framework program manager, and it is unusually friendly to managed service providers. People still go shopping, usually for one of four reasons.
- The price is not on the website. apptega.com shows Essentials, Plus and Premium with "Request pricing" on the two upper tiers. The only figures live on AWS Marketplace, under different names (Starter, Advanced and Premium).
- The add-on rules differ by channel. The website includes the audit manager in Plus. AWS sells the Audit Manager as a $100 a month add-on on Advanced, and attaches Vendor Manager and API and Connectors to Advanced only.
- Integrations cost extra. API and Connectors is a paid add-on. Buyers who expected evidence to flow in from their cloud, identity and HR systems by default compare against tools built around that.
- The card stops at 200 employees. Above that, pricing is on request, so a growing company loses the public anchor at the moment the bill gets bigger.
Apptega alternatives priced at one, three and five frameworks
Annual list prices from each vendor's published card. ZenGRC publishes nowhere, so it appears at the directory figure. The band column matters as much as the price: a card that only covers 20 people tells a 120-person company nothing.
| Platform | Card covers | 1 framework | 3 frameworks | 5 frameworks | Vendr median |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apptega | Up to 200 employees | $7,080 | $11,760 | $14,880 | No data |
| Sprinto | Up to 100 | $9,500 | $13,500 | $17,500 | $15,000 |
| Secureframe | Up to 100 | $15,000 | Quote | Quote | $20,000 |
| Drata | 100 FTE | $32,500 | $47,500 | $62,500 | $25,000 |
| Vanta | 1 to 20 | Packages $14,000 to $23,000 | $20,000 | ||
| Scrut | Up to 20 | $15,000 | $15,000 | $15,000 | $7,250 |
| ZenGRC | Not published | ~$30,000 | ~$30,000 | ~$30,000 | No data |
| Thoropass | By headcount | $8,700 + $5,800 audit | Quote | Quote | $25,964 |
Two things jump out. First, Apptega's card is the lowest at every framework count and the only one that reaches 200 people. Second, Apptega has no recorded contracts on Vendr, so its list is a ceiling with no known floor, while Drata's recorded median sits exactly at its $25,000 platform list and Scrut's median is half of its list. Negotiated prices can reorder this table. List prices cannot.
Each Apptega competitor, and who should pick it
Sprinto, for a SOC 2 first program under 100 people
Sprinto publishes a $7,500 platform fee plus $2,000 per framework, so it lists above Apptega at every framework count, by $2,420 at one, $1,740 at three and $2,620 at five. You pay that premium for automated evidence collection, which is the core of the product rather than an add-on. Its recorded median of $15,000 is close to its three-framework list. The rate card is on our Sprinto pricing page.
Secureframe, for one framework done properly
Secureframe lists $7,500 for the platform and $7,500 for the first framework, up to 100 employees. That is about double Apptega Starter for one framework, and nothing past the first is public. It suits a company that needs one audit soon and wants the vendor's help getting there. Details are in our Secureframe pricing breakdown.
Drata, when automation depth matters more than price
Drata's card is the most expensive here: a $25,000 platform for a 100 FTE company plus $7,500 per framework, or a $15,000 Foundation package for 1 to 50 FTE. At three frameworks Drata lists $47,500 against Apptega's $11,760. The recorded median of $25,000 says most buyers land on the platform fee with frameworks discounted. See Drata pricing.
Vanta, for small SaaS companies chasing SOC 2 fast
Vanta's packages run $14,000 to $23,000 a year, but only for 1 to 20 employees, so they are not comparable row for row with Apptega's 200-person band. It is the default shortlist entry for a young software company. Our Vanta alternatives table covers the rest of that market.
Scrut, for the lowest recorded bill under 20 people
Scrut lists $15,000 up to 20 employees with frameworks included, and its recorded median is $7,250, almost exactly Apptega Starter at list. For a company that small, Scrut with three frameworks can cost less than Apptega Advanced after negotiation. Above 20 people Scrut has no public price.
ZenGRC and Thoropass, the two different shapes
ZenGRC prices one flat rate with unlimited users, frameworks and vendors, at about $2,500 a month on software directories. It only beats Apptega when you are past 200 people or carry more frameworks than Premium holds. Our ZenGRC pricing page has the math. Thoropass sells the platform from $8,700 and a SOC 2 audit from $5,800, so it is the only option where the auditor sits on the same invoice.
Apptega alternatives for MSPs and multi-client providers
This is where Apptega is hardest to replace. It sells Service Provider packages with branding and multi-tenancy, and the month-to-month AWS contract from $590 lets a provider test it with one client without a twelve month commitment. Most SOC 2 automation tools are priced per customer company, which works for a single business but multiplies fast across a client book. If your clients include defense suppliers, CMMC is often what is driving the work, and many of them spend as much time finding defense contracts and recompetes as they do on the assessment itself. Our CMMC compliance software guide covers which platforms handle CMMC well. Before you switch a client book away from Apptega, get per-client pricing from each alternative in writing.
When the real gap is regulatory change, not security frameworks
Some teams looking at Apptega alternatives are not short of a framework tool at all. A bank, a registered investment adviser, an insurer or a healthcare company can pass SOC 2 and still miss a state privacy amendment or a new federal rule, because security platforms track controls, not regulators. That is the job ComplianceOfficer does. It keeps a register of the US obligations that apply to your company, checks the primary sources every day, explains each change in plain language and drafts the policy update for every gap. See how regulatory change management works, or compare plans on pricing, from $149 a month. It runs next to Apptega or any of the tools above.
How to choose between Apptega and its competitors
- Write down headcount for next year, not this year. It decides which cards apply at all: 20, 100 or 200.
- Count frameworks for three years. Per-framework pricing (Drata, Sprinto) punishes growth; packaged pricing (Apptega, Scrut, ZenGRC) does not.
- Decide whether integrations are the product. If evidence must flow in automatically, price Apptega with API and Connectors before you compare.
- Quote everyone on the same scope. Same frameworks, same modules, same term, then compare totals, not headline lines.
- Check refund and notice terms. Apptega's listing says no refund after purchase, and Drata's and Scrut's AWS contracts are non-refundable too.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best Apptega alternatives?
Sprinto, Secureframe, Drata and Vanta are the closest Apptega alternatives for SOC 2 and security framework automation, Scrut suits companies under 20 people, ZenGRC suits teams carrying many frameworks under one flat rate, and Thoropass suits buyers who want the platform and the SOC 2 audit from one vendor. The right pick depends on headcount and framework count.
Who are Apptega's competitors?
Apptega competes with security compliance platforms such as Vanta, Drata, Secureframe, Sprinto, Scrut and Thoropass, and with broader GRC tools such as ZenGRC and Hyperproof. With managed service providers it also competes on service-provider packaging, since Apptega sells branded, multi-tenant packages for MSSPs and resellers through its sales team.
Is Sprinto cheaper than Apptega?
Not on list price. At one framework Sprinto lists $9,500 a year against $7,080 for Apptega Starter, and at five frameworks $17,500 against $14,880 for Apptega Premium. Sprinto's recorded Vendr median is $15,000, while Apptega has no recorded contracts, so the negotiated gap is unknown. Get both quotes on the same framework list.
Is Apptega good for MSPs?
It is one of the few platforms built with MSPs in mind. Apptega sells Service Provider packages with branding and multi-tenancy, and its AWS listing offers a month-to-month contract from $590, which lets a provider pilot with one client. The provider package itself is priced by sales, so ask for per-client economics before you resell it.
Does Vanta cost more than Apptega?
Yes, on published prices. Vanta lists Essentials at $14,000 and Professional at $23,000 a year for 1 to 20 employees, with a recorded median of $20,000. Apptega lists $7,080 to $14,880 a year for up to 200 employees. Vanta's case rests on automated evidence collection, so compare what each collects for you.
